Top 10 Questions to ask to find a quality and reliable Solar Installer
A recent audit of residential solar PV (photovoltaic) systems by the Clean Energy Regulator reveals that over 20% of the installations were unsafe including faulty wiring and unsecured solar panels. The results of this audit led the Federal Energy Minister Angus Taylor to highlight the severity of the issue and warns about the safety of this rapidly growing industry.
At the same time, CHOICE released its Solar Survey Results of over 1,000 CHOICE members online. CHOICE members reveal that smaller, independent solar providers deliver a much more reliable service than for example Origin Energy.
Surprisingly, over one-third of respondents have had problems with their system, mainly inverter problems and decline in performance, installation problems and panel, framing & mounting problems.
However, most issues with the panels were uncovered two to nine years after the installation date.
Overall, the respondents confirm that finding a quality, reliable solar supplier or installer is key to getting a quality system at the right price, with good after-sales support.
Contact us now to ensure you are taken care of by a highly disciplined certified team of solar engineering professionals and installers. Call 4955 4658 or 4955 6441.
And here are our top 10 Questions to ask to find a quality and reliable Solar Installer
- What is the suitable system size for my home? (Is it matched by my energy demand?)
- Do you visit and assess my home site before installing the system? (This shows how professional the solar installer is and might improve the quality of the installation)
- Are you providing an installation work plan (e.g. roof plan, timeframe)? (Being organized might save you time and money)
- Do you provide solar maintenance services post-installation? (Keep track of the system performances)
- Will the system be inspected by a third party to ensure it is installed up-to standards? (Ensure that the system is installed to Australian Safety Standards)
- What is the payback time of the solar PV system? (When will I start earning money?)
- Can I receive the overall costs in writing (Ensure you understand all related system costs and that there are no hidden surprises)
- Will my solar system only be installed by a CEC approved solar installer? (This is a mandatory requirement in Australia)
- What are the pro’s and con’s of different solar and inverter brands? (Understand what is the value for money)
- How many Renewable Energy Certificates (RECs also called STCs) will I receive and what is their market price? (This is Government Legislation and if you sign the STC’s over to your solar supplier, this should be deducted from the total system price)

Are commercial-scale solar photovoltaic (PV) systems viable now?
Carbon Friendly Enterprises (CFE) Principal Project Engineer, Zim Solo, presented at the recent SEGRA Conference in Mackay on how businesses can improve their financial resilience by introducing renewable energy sources including solar power to their electricity supply systems.
Mr. Solo explains that for most business electricity is the second highest financial overhead cost after wages and investing in renewables lowers the cost of capital, increases operational performance and even stock price performance is positively influenced.
He further outlines how a commercial-scale solar photovoltaic system in Queensland is financially viable today and can pay itself of in as little as 2.1 years of operation with a 47% Return on Investment (ROI).
If you are interested to find out how your business can save energy cost, please get in contact with Zim here at CFE on email@example.com to ensure you are taken care of by a highly disciplined certified team of renewable engineering professionals.
All SEGRA presentations are made available on their website. If you are interested in Mr. Solo’s presentation, please go to: https://segra.com.au/2018/conference-proceedings/

Redflow Battery Storage Systems (ZCells)
Carbon Friendly Enterprises (CFE) General Manager & Principal Energy Manager Jemal Solo and Project Director and Principal Engineer Zim Solo have successfully completed a two-day training program delivering a comprehensive understanding of Redflow’s Battery and the Redflow Battery Management System (BMS).
This training program is a full hands-on course for both installers and system designers, which covered all aspects of the battery including installation and configuration.
The main advantages of ZCells battery storage systems compared to other batteries are:
- Delivery of 100% cycle depth of discharge without any risk of battery damage
- Zero loss of storage capacity for its 10-year warranted life
- Very low fire and explosion risk due a bromide-based electrolyte being a fire retardant
- Operates at high temperatures (up to 50°C) without active cooling
